The ABTT is the independent membership organisation setting and upholding standards in technical excellence, safety and compliance for theatre and live performance. It seeks to advance expertise and work with its membership to develop and promote best practice in all relevant crafts and disciplines. It promotes excellence in the design of buildings for performance and in production technology. It works with government and the enforcement agencies to ensure an enlightened and flexible approach to legal compliance. It provides hands-on training to the industry in technical subjects to ensure the continuous advancement of technical knowledge and expertise.
Anyone who has an interest in technical theatre, whether in a professional or amateur capacity, can join the Association of British Theatre Technicians, including theatres, schools, colleges and companies. By becoming a member you gain membership benefits and individual members will also have the ability to join our Committees, bring your knowledge and expertise to the table to better the Industry too. · ABTT Theatre Show: An annual event taking place in June, the ABTT Theatre Show is the exhibition where the broadest collection of specialist suppliers supporting live performance technology and production gather to connect with those who deliver the performance in the world of theatre, events, festivals, music and more.
· ABTT MAKE A DiFFERENCE Conference: An annual proactive conference day committed to the discussion of current industry issues, where we ask people who attend to pledge to leaving with proactive action points to help develop strategies for positive change.
· ITEAC by the ABTT: The International Theatre, Engineering and Architecture Conference was created to promote discussion, learning and best practice and to help avoid mistakes in the design and specification of performance spaces. With international contributions it is also the place where we can collectively consider what will be needed to support great performances and the event spaces for years to come.
